Carlitta Durand-Nostalgic Nights

December 26, 2010 Leave a comment

Carlitta Durand dropped this on Christmas Eve and wow talk about an album that sets the mood…no not so much that(yeah I know what you’re thinking) a reflective, chill, winter night type mood. Can’t believe it’s been a year since she dropped The Doug and Patty EP. If this is going to be a reoccurring thing I can get used to it; another Christmas present.

Kozzie-Back Again

Ok if you’ve followed Soul Love through the months I’ve posted a lot of UK talent. As usual with the net, one thing leads to another and I found this MC, MC Kozzie via Creative Control TV. First off the video is beautifully filmed! It’s funny, looking back I found out about Grime back in 05′ and honestly I was like WT!? Although in the past year Grime has caught my ear more and more. I heard this song by Kozzie and I just had that feeling like I was listening to survival of the Fittest by Mobb Deep. Y’all know that zone out feeling, it’s real grimy, get the head nod going. I feel the UK Grime scene because it’s still hip hop but it’s uniquely British, it’s England, it’s London and I love that because everyone has to have their stamp on things. Shouts out to Corey Davis.

Discover Dira

December 26, 2010 Leave a comment

Welcome back! I hope for those that celebrated; everyone had a good Christmas and since we are still in the holiday season I hope you all are still enjoying. Over my break I stumbled upon this wonderful gem by Indonesian R&B artist Dira Sugandi. Dira released her debut album ”Something About The Girl”back in March of this year. Dira grew up as a huge fan of the band Incognito(I did as well) and through attending shows and through the world music grapevine linked up with Ingcognito leader/producerJean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick. If you haven’t heard of Dira it is my pleasure to present her music to you and if you are well acquainted I’m sure you won’t mind listening to her smooth sound again.

BBE Records-G.I. Disco Compilation

December 15, 2010 Leave a comment

(Heidelberg, Germany. Picture taken by DeVon)

BBE Records has to be one of the better record labels of modern musical history(20th century-2000′s) I have been a fan since I heard J Dilla/Jay Dee’s Welcome to Detroit. I saw this compilation posted by Nujazzspirit and I had to share this.  Like many I have family in the military specifically the Army and due to the cold war where they were stationed…Germany/West Germany at the time and even now. It was because of the U.S. Army I even went to Germany, I went to visit family. I’ve been up on Germany since I was a child, being around at the tearing down of the Berlin Wall(Yo! they were selling pieces in department stores in the states) other family members visiting relatives stationed there, German friends I’ve randomly met(yes, interesting) and the list goes on.  The G.I. Disco Compilation was compiled by:

Berlin local DJ heroes Kalle Kuts and Daniel W. Best a.k.a. G.I.DISCO have compiled an excellent 80s Soul, Funk, R & B and Disco selection. It combines representative music of that time with informative liner notes about the German historical background (which also is an important part of 20th century´s world history), international artist quotes and worldwide renowned art by Berlin based photographer Frank Thiel to an unique history lesson and listening experience. -BBE

Itadi Bonney-Hustle Man

tabi Bonney

I’m gonna keep it going…this late night “midnight marauder” stuff is like being in a club. I’m up, Tabi Bonney is up and Tabi Bonney feels generous enough to let us partake in some of his family history. Well as you all know  Tabi’s dad is Afro-Funk singer/musician Itadi Bonney and Tabi sent out one of his dad’s songs only released on Vinyl in Africa to the world. The track entitled Hustle Man is FUN-KAY!! Honestly it’s  ”cook-out jam” material, vintage sound and everything you would want to get your great-uncle up and shaking that one leg with a beer in his hand. Don’t know how long this will be available so here’s the link but when it’s gone, it’s gone.
